When you want to instantly transform your under-deck area into a clean, finished ceiling, nothing beats the UpSide Deck Ceiling System by Color Guard. Not only does UpSide look great, it’s also super easy to install.
STEP 1: Straight Edge to Install QIT’s
- Starting after you have installed your flashing, our Quick Install Track (QIT) provides a mounting point for UpSide and sets the pitch for the system.
- QITs are usually attached to the joist, perpendicular to the ledger board.
- Use a straightedge (seen in the photo) or string line to set the pitch, then attach QITs.
- Attach the long leg of the QIT to the joist at the ledger board. The flange of the QIT (short leg) needs to be flush or slightly below the lowest joist to accommodate for uneven joists.
We recommend using the #10 x 1¼” hex head screws (longer screws) in the UPSD-QIT-HW hardware kit (sold separately) to mount the QIT.
STEP 2: Install Edge Trim
- Level and install Edge trim (Photo). Edge trim follows the pitch of the QIT. IMPORTANT NOTE: The top edge of the Edge Trim is the single leg with the slots. The overall length of Edge Trim will be equal to the length of the main channels, which should extend into your gutter by at least 2″.
STEP 3: Install Starter Strips and Glide Clips
- Starter strips are mounted to the QIT’s and are typically perpendicular to the joist.
- Install the first Starter Strip 4” from the house or structure (Photo 1). The Starter Strip should run the entire width of the deck between the outside trim board.
- Install Starter Strip to bottom of QIT using QIT Hardware (Photo 2). We recommend using the #10 x 1¼” hex head screws (longer screws) in the UPSD-QIT-HW hardware kit (sold separately) to mount the QIT.
- Measure, cut, and install additional Starter Strips as needed every 16 inches (max space 20 inches) On Center from the structure to the outside edge of the deck.
- Snap Guide Clips onto Starter strip. The glide clips will hold the main channels in place.
STEP 4: Install Channels
While this is the most complicated portion of the installation, our step-by-step instructions will easily walk you through the process.
