Color Guard Railing is joining the North American Deck and Railing Association to urge homeowners to prioritize deck safety and this May and beyond.

With over 60 million decks in the United States, NADRA estimates that about half of these decks have exceeded their useful life and need repair or replacement.

As part of Deck Safety Month, Color Guard and NADRA are recommending homeowners verify the structural integrity of their decks to ensure user safety, as well as extend deck lifespan, improve appearance and increase livability.

Homeowners can access NADRA’s resources to Check Your Deck® by visiting NADRA.org, which includes the 10-Point Deck Safety Consumer Checklist. This resource offers a step-by-step guide for visually inspecting the deck for safety concerns such as corroding fasteners, decaying materials, loose railings, inadequate lighting, and more. Although not a substitute for a professional deck inspection, the checklist is a helpful tool to assist homeowners.
