When you have a revolutionary product like the Patriot Post Mount, you get asked a lot of questions. The one we get the most is if they can be attached to materials other than wood – like decks made from concrete and bricks.

The answer is yes, but different materials come with different requirements.

All applications
Professionals and DIYers alike choose the Patriot Post Mounts by Color Guard for their durability, ease of installation and adaptability. Rated for 500 pounds of pressure, the USA-made mounts easily adapt to fit 36″ to 42″ high railing and can be adjusted up to 11-Degrees in any direction using just a socket wrench and a magnetic torpedo level.

Wood/Composite
The most popular choice for decking material, the Patriot Post Mount easily attached to both wood and composite decking. There are, however, a few things to remember.
1. Do not attach Patriot Post Mounts to the decking alone. Over time, the decking will lose its ability to keep the posts mounted securely and will create safety hazards.
2. If you can, attach directly to joists or use a pair of 2x8s on their side attached to the deck framework as blocking so that the post is being secured to something more structurally sound that just the deck board (see diagram).

3. Also, available is an under-deck mounting plate that includes lag bolts and nuts (SPB-KIT).

Concrete/Brick
Patriot Post Mounts can be installed into your concrete or brick patio if it doesn’t already have rails built in, but it is not without some challenges.
The most obvious is that concrete and brick a lot harder than wood!
While installation is basically the same as it would be for a wood or composite deck you will need a masonry drill bit for drilling into concrete.
One other thing to consider is that concrete and brick are not very forgiving when it comes to mistakes. In other words, we recommend double- or triple-checking your measurements before drilling.
